My refund amount is different from what I expected - why?
If the refund you received - or the refund amount shown after cancelling - is less than the full amount you originally paid, there are a few common reasons why. Understanding the breakdown will help you confirm whether the amount is correct.
Non-refundable service fee
ReserveTheNight charges a service fee that is itemized separately on your checkout page and in your confirmation email. This fee is non-refundable. If your booking total was, for example, the room rate plus a service fee, the refund you receive will typically cover the room rate only (or the refundable portion of it), minus any applicable cancellation penalty.
Cancellation penalties
If you cancelled after the free cancellation deadline - or if you booked a non-refundable or partially refundable rate - the hotel's cancellation policy applies.
The specific penalty terms for your booking are set by the hotel and were displayed on the room selection page, the order summary, and in your confirmation email.
How to check the expected refund before cancelling
Before you confirm a cancellation, the cancellation preview screen shows you a breakdown of:
- The amount that will be refunded
- Any fees or penalties being applied
- The non-refundable service fee
Reviewing this screen before confirming is the best way to understand exactly what you will receive back.
