What cancellation fees will I be charged?
Cancellation fees vary depending on the rate type you booked and whether you cancel before or after the free cancellation deadline. The best way to know the exact fee for your booking is to use the cancellation preview screen, which shows a full breakdown before you commit.
Fee structures by rate type
Free cancellation rate If you cancel before the deadline specified in your booking, no fee is charged and the full amount is refunded. If you cancel after the deadline, a penalty may apply.
Non-refundable rate Non-refundable rates cannot be cancelled for any refund - the full booking amount is retained regardless of when you cancel or if a no-show occurs. These rates typically have a lower upfront price to reflect this restriction.
Partial refund rate Some hotels offer a middle option where cancellation results in a partial refund. A defined portion of the total - often the first night or a percentage of the total - is retained as a penalty, and the remainder is refunded.
Common penalty structures
Hotels set their own cancellation policies, which can include:
- First night penalty - the cost of one night is retained; the rest is refunded
- Percentage penalty - a set percentage (for example, 50%) of the total booking is retained
- Full amount retained - the entire booking total is non-refundable
How to see the exact fee before cancelling
You are never committed to a cancellation until you confirm it. To check the exact fee and expected refund for your specific booking:
- Open your booking from My Bookings (or via the guest access link).
- Select Cancel booking.
- The cancellation preview screen will show the penalty amount and the refund you will receive.
- You can close this screen without proceeding if you decide not to cancel.
If the fee shown seems incorrect or you have questions about the policy, contact ReserveTheNight support via the contact form before confirming the cancellation.
